2012 UBM Electronics ACE Award Categories
STARTUP OF THE YEAR
This award goes to a venture capital (or pre-IPO financed) start-up (under three years in business) electronics manufacturing (device or system) company that demonstrates excellence in business development and/or technology development processes with the potential to become a technical or market leader in the global electronics industry.
COMPANY OF THE YEAR
This award celebrates the company that exhibits the highest degree of professionalism, staff development and retention, customer focus, technical excellence and profitable growth - a true leader in the electronics sector.
EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
This award goes to an individual who brought leadership, technological and fiscal vision to a company, organization or company division during a calendar year.
DESIGN TEAM OF THE YEAR
This award goes to a group of innovators whose collaborative efforts made a significant contribution to the furtherance of technology and whose project management abilities were creative, efficient and inspiring.
INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR
This award goes to the individual who brought leadership, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to technology, a product or business.
ENERGY TECHNOLOGY AWARD
A significant portion of the electronics industry has begun the historic shift from information to energy technology. This trend will help sustain and expand several industry sectors. Our Energy Technology Award recognizes those companies that have made the most significant contribution to this shift through the introduction of new concepts and products that help conserve energy or create new energy sources.
CONTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR
The Contributor of the Year award will be awarded to the engineer who has contributed most significantly to the advancement of knowledge in the field of engineering and design through their own bylined feature articles.

MOST ENGAGED COMMUNITY MEMBER
The breadth and depth of the UBM and EDN communities are the heartbeat of the network, pumping opinions, ideas, insights and pearls of wisdom to inspire all involved to reflect, act and create the next waves of innovation.
This award will go to the most engaged member of the UBM and EDN communities: The person that we feel whose participation has most benefited the communities as a whole and whose comments impress our judges as the most consistently substantive, articulate and insightful.

BEST STUDENT DESIGN/DESIGN CHALLENGE WITH PUBLIC SCHOOLS

STUDENT OF THE YEAR
This award goes to an individual whose discipline, hard work and academic success are considered hallmarks for other engineering or science students.
MENTOR OF THE YEAR
Learning can come in many forms, but few are as valuable, inspiring or long-lasting as the learning passed down from mentor to mentee. In this award, new for 2011, we will pay homage to the mentor who has served most honorably in this role.

What are the hottest products of the year? A combination of our editors' opinion and an examination of the most popular product stories of the past year as determined by our audience will determine the winner for each category.
